POSITION OVERVIEW

You will be the Assistant Principal of a High School (Grades 9-12) consisting of approximately 1400 students in Saginaw Township, Michigan. This position will join another High School Assistant Principal, a district Athletic Director/Assistant High School Principal, and two Deans of Students in assisting the Principal in the administration of the high school. Heritage High School has been designated as an Advanced Placement Program high school.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Under the Principal’s direction, exercised leadership in implementing the general program of education approved for the school to meet the needs of all students.
  • Sets school goals and expectations for the staff and students.
  • Directs the activities of the professional and nonprofessional staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual performance.
  • Implements Board of Education Policies and Administrative Rules and Regulations relating to the school.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other functions required or appropriate to the school's administration.
  • Utilizes all resources of the school system and the community in developing the most effective educational program.
  • Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests and monitors expenditure of funds.
  • Keeps the Principal informed of the school's activities and problems.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Assists with School Improvement Process relating to building improvement, planning, testing and reporting.
  • In-person daily attendance required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Meet the state certification requirements to serve as a high school Principal.
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Five years of successful teaching experience (at least three years in a secondary school).
  • Administrative experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead staff in the change process through collaboration and problem solving.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology and knowledge of technology integration with curriculum.
  • Experience in leading organizational and instructional change to support success for all learners.
  • Knowledge of secondary curriculum, Michigan Merit Curriculum, Michigan Regulations and requirements, understanding of data analysis, MTSS, MIBLSI, progress monitoring, NWEA.
  • Understanding of master scheduling for a large high school; experience preferred.
  • Understanding of teacher evaluation; experience with the 5D+ Teacher Evaluation system desirable.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to use sound judgment, tact, and courtesy in a variety of situations.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • Repetitive hand motions.
  • Prolonged use of computer.
  • Possible occasional lifting or pushing of up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close-up reading such as needed for handwritten or typed material, ability to adjust focus and depth perception.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, and kneeling.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily an indoor work environment in the main office of a high school in Saginaw Township.


COMPENSATION:

This is a 225-day position represented by the Saginaw Township Administrators Association. Salary for 2023-2024 is $85,490 to $96,477 with traditional benefits. The collective bargaining agreement expires June 30, 2024. The parties' collective bargaining agreement has a wage reopener for the 2023-2024 school year. Standard employee benefits. *Including 10 holidays.
