• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated classification or root-cause output rather than accepting it at face value.

Responsibilities

• Own initial triage SLA: under 4 hours for P0/P1 defects, under 8 hours for P2/P3, from intake to classification.
• Review automated triage decisions and correct misclassifications and escalations.
• Perform log and crash-dump analysis to extract structured signals from diagnostics data.
• Reproduce defects when possible and document repro steps, environment, and observed vs. expected results.
• Run duplicate and known-issue checks beyond automated shortlists, especially for prose-style reports.
• Validate AI-drafted root-cause hypotheses against cited evidence before actions.
• Escalate critical defects to the Senior ChromeOS Platform Engineer with clear diagnostics.
• Participate in daily triage stand-up during US-day handover.

Bug Triage Diagnostics Engineer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own initial triage SLA: under 4 hours for P0/P1 defects, under 8 hours for P2/P3, from intake to classification.
• Review every automated triage decision: confirm auto-assigned components, investigate anything the system
  escalated for low confidence or a severity keyword, and correct misclassifications - including cases where the confidence score cleared the gate but the assignment was still wrong.
• Perform log and crash-dump analysis, extracting a structured signal summary from raw diagnostic data.
• Reproduce reported defects where possible; document repro steps, environment, and observed vs. expected behavior.
• Run duplicate and known-issue checks beyond the automated shortlist, particularly for real, prose-style reports where automated retrieval is weakest.
• Validate any AI-drafted root-cause hypothesis against its cited evidence before it is acted on or shared - an ungrounded or weakly-grounded draft is treated as a lead, never a conclusion.
• Escalate P0/P1 defects and anything needing a platform-level fix to the Senior ChromeOS Platform Engineer, with a clean diagnosis attached.
• Participate in the daily triage stand-up at the US-day handover.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5-8+ years in technical support, QA, or triage engineering for Linux-based or embedded/consumer hardware
  products.
• Deep knowledge of Linux kernel logs, crash dumps, and basic driver-level debugging.
• Experience with a high-volume bug/issue tracker and its triage workflow (Buganizer, Jira, or similar).
• Comfortable evaluating AI-generated classification or root-cause output critically rather than accepting it at face
  value.
• Based in a UTC 5-aligned location, able to work core hours matching US Eastern business hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A transferable-triage profile (Linux/embedded/consumer-hardware triage, kernel-log and crash-dump analysis,
  high-volume tracker workflow). Prior ChromeOS, Chromium, or Android platform triage experience is a bonus,
  not a prerequisite.
• Familiarity with duplicate-detection / retrieval systems and their common failure modes (recall gaps on prose-
  style reports, lexical false positives).
• English fluency required; Spanish or Portuguese a plus.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Languages & scripting: Python and shell/bash for log parsing, triage automation, and repro scripting.
• Diagnostics: Linux kernel log analysis (dmesg, syslog), crash-dump and backtrace triage, basic driver-level
  debugging.
• Tracker & tooling: high-volume issue trackers (Buganizer, Jira, or similar), duplicate/retrieval tooling, structured
  triage workflows.
• Domain familiarity: Linux-based or embedded/consumer hardware triage; ChromeOS, Chromium, or Android
  platform experience a plus.
• AI-assisted tooling literacy: reading and correctly interpreting classifier confidence scores and grounded RCA
  drafts, and recognizing when a draft is ungrounded or weakly evidenced.
