Job summary

M&T Bank is seeking a Data Engineer for design, development, and optimization of data pipelines and analytics solutions in Buffalo, NY. The role supports operational reporting, regulatory compliance, and technology decisions.

You will collaborate with technology leadership and stakeholders to deliver ETL processes, data integrations, and dashboards, while ensuring data quality and governance across enterprise data platforms.

Qualifications

• Combined minimum of 5 years’ higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management and/or architecture.
• Experience with Python, SQL, Java or similar technologies.
• Experience querying and analyzing data using relational databases.
• Understanding of ETL processes, data transformation techniques, and data quality practices.
• Experience working with APIs, file-based integrations, and enterprise data sources.

Responsibilities

• Work with Tech management, senior engineers, business partners, and support teams to design, develop, maintain, and enhance data pipelines, ETL processes, and reporting solutions.
• Develop and support integrations with internal and external data sources via APIs, databases, file exchanges, and enterprise platforms.
• Gather requirements from business partners and translate into technical solutions.
• Create, maintain, and improve data models, data quality controls, and data transformation processes.
• Support development and maintenance of dashboards, analytics products, and reporting solutions.
• Troubleshoot data issues, pipeline failures, and performance bottlenecks with senior engineers for long-term solutions.
• Facilitate meetings with stakeholders, vendors, and tech teams to support project delivery.
• Expand knowledge of data engineering, analytics, cloud technologies, and financial services practices.
• Follow industry best practices, coding standards, data governance standards, and operational procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of systems and services and adhere to risk and regulatory standards.
