Job summary

Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY seeks a financial systems specialist to support Hyperion Planning and Essbase and PeopleSoft Financials. The role blends functional and technical work on a team delivering budgeting, data warehousing, and analytical capabilities for campus leaders.

You will design, implement, and maintain Hyperion and PeopleSoft modules, develop queries and reports, and support daily operations and upgrades to ensure accurate university financial analytics.

Qualifications

  • Preferred 5 years or more experience in SQL using Tableau, Power BI, and/or other data tools.
  • Preferred 5 years or more experience in Hyperion Planning & Essbase building out servers and applications.
  • Preferred 5 years or more experience in PeopleSoft Financials, HCM and Student Campus Solutions.
  • Preferred 5 years or more experience with Microsoft Office Tools and the Smart View add-in.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply University financial policies, manage resources, and initiate actions to achieve broadly defined objectives.
  • Design, analyze, code, and implement applications within the Hyperion Planning framework that support and enhance the University’s financial systems used by university departments in the analysis and interpretation of budget data.
  • Create, update, modify, and develop specialized data and reporting tables and structures for Budget Directors and Managers and OBP personnel.
  • Respond to Director’s and/or senior university leadership requests for specialized analytics.
  • Develop, modify, and review financial reports and data for monthly financial analysis.
  • Provide input into strategic decisions that affect financial planning, policies, practices, and operations for Financial Centers across Campus.
  • Work with users to translate requirements into financial reports in Hyperion and PeopleSoft environments.
  • Maintain and upgrade the PeopleSoft and Hyperion Planning systems, including data audits and security.

Pay Range

Pay Range $115,000 -$135,000

Pay rates at Syracuse University are based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, the job responsibilities; the candidate’s education, training, work experience and key competencies; the university’s strategic priorities; internal peer equity; applicable federal, state, local laws, grant funding and contractual requisites; and external market analyses.

Job Description

This position has an active role in the daily support of the Hyperion Planning and Essbase environment and PeopleSoft Financials. The position will work in a combined functional and technical environment and will work on a team responsible for the integration of financial transactional systems, data warehousing, data modeling and analysis, and planning and budgeting systems that support the delivery of financial and analytical data to business end-users and University leaders. The position is responsible for designing, building, implementation, maintenance, and future system enhancements of the Hyperion Planning and Essbase environment as well as modules within the PeopleSoft Financials system for budget related functionality and data related to budgeting processes. The position will also work on a team responsible for developing and maintaining queries and reports using the University’s query, reporting, and analysis tools.

Education and Experience
  • Preferred 5 years or more experience in SQL using Tableau, Power Bl, and/or other data tools.
  • Preferred 5 years or more experience in Hyperion Planning & Essbase building out servers and applications.

Skills and Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree required in MIS , Accounting, Computer Science or a related field and at least 5 years of experience.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply University financial policies, manage resources, and initiate actions to achieve broadly defined objectives. Interpret, organize, and execute projects with limited direction in a highly specialized and data-driven environment. Design, analyze, code, and implement applications within the Hyperion Planning framework that support and enhance the University’s financial systems used by university departments in the analysis and interpretation of budget data.
  • Create, update, modify, and develop specialized data and reporting tables and structures for Budget Directors and Managers and OBP personnel.
  • Respond to Director’s and/or senior university leadership requests for specialized analytics. Develop, modify, and review financial reports and data that can be used for monthly financial analysis.
  • Provide input into strategic decisions that affect financial planning, policies, practices, and operations for Financial Centers across Campus. Work extensively with users across the university to translate requirements into financial reports in a complex Hyperion and or PeopleSoft environment.
  • Applications to include (but not limited to) department tree, account tree, and several additional hierarchy trees used for application buildup. Daily maintenance of PeopleSoft Financials and Hyperion Planning systems, to include (but not limited to) log clean-up, troubleshooting, user and group security, performance tuning, and dimension audits.
  • Create and update data audit reports for various feeder systems and work and lead projects to enhance capabilities and services that the office provides with regards to the financial management of the university.
  • This includes upgrades, patches and fixes to the PeopleSoft and Hyperion Planning systems.
  • Preparation for the annual budget and setup of the training environment, including daily data audits, pre-system opening reporting, post-system closing reporting, and assistance with data feeds to HR and GL
