Job summary

Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey, seeks a Unit Specialist in the Division of Life Sciences within SAS. The role monitors expenditures, analyzes financial data, ensures GAAP compliance, and supports day-to-day operations and policy development.

It requires a Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience, with hybrid work options. Eligible candidates will join a large, mission-driven campus in New Jersey with comprehensive benefits and a 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field plus two years of relevant experience in a financial/accounting function.
• Knowledge of GAAP concepts and financial reporting.
• Computer literacy, specifically with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds, prepares financial statements reflecting status of programs and activities.
• Analyzes financial data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes.
• Ensures compliance with University and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.
• Creates and maintains database to capture employee and historical data.
• Provides assistance in the day-to-day operations and development of DLS policies and procedures.
• Performs special tasks and projects for management as assigned.
• Acts as a liaison to ensure the integration of DLS business activities across departments and within University structure.
• Works under general supervision, within established parameters, with few direct instructions.
• Performs professional work requiring knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices ( GAAP ), and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting.
