Job summary

The University of Missouri-Columbia’s CAFNR Construction Team at MU South Farm is seeking an experienced BTS Carpenter to join a four-person crew responsible for the construction, remodeling, repair and maintenance of agricultural and office facilities across CAFNR Research Centers throughout Missouri.

The role covers wood and metal building construction, interior finish carpentry, building repairs, concrete work including footings and pads, framing, finishing, and tool operation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Four years of carpentry experience or training.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans and drawings.
  • Experience with formwork, concrete footings and pads, framing and finishing.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required.
  • Ability to lift 50–80 lbs daily.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Overnight travel up to four consecutive weeks may be required.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources' (CAFNR) Construction Team is seeking an experienced BTS Carpenter to join its team. Based at the MU South Farm, the CAFNR Construction Team is responsible for the construction, remodeling, repair, and maintenance of agricultural and office facilities located at CAFNR Research Centers throughout Missouri.

Working as part of a four-person team consisting of two carpenters and a heavy equipment operator, this position performs a variety of maintenance and construction duties including wood and metal building construction, interior finish carpentry, building repairs, and concrete work. Responsibilities include forming, pouring, and finishing concrete footings and pads; framing and finishing structures; operating hand and power tools; and assisting with maintenance and renovation projects.

Maintain, safely operate, clean and properly store all tools and equipment.

This position requires regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Overnight travel may be required for periods of up to four consecutive weeks while working at research center locations throughout Missouri.

Shift

8 hours per day Monday - Friday beginning at 7:00 AM

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
  • Four years of actual work experience and training including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training in the trade.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, and drawings.
  • Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of applicable trade.
  • A valid driver’s license may be required.
  • Ability on a daily basis to:
  • Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trades tools and equipment.
  • Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy (50-80 lbs.) objects on a daily basis.
  • Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, left, and otherwise move equipment, controls, parts, etc.
  • Visually assess maintenance, construction and repair needs.
  • Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
  • Depending on the nature of work performed, the incumbent may be required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the “Industrial Standard for Respirator Use”.
Preferred Qualifications

5 years of experience in carpentry is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $17.90 -$30.40 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
