Responsibilities

• Welds metals using acetylene, electric arc and/or other welding equipment to perform alterations and repairs on bridges and related structures.
• Prepares materials for welding by preheating and cleaning metals and by laying out, cutting and fitting materials according to blueprints or instructions.
• Fabricates miscellaneous metal parts for bridge repairs by cutting, drilling, tapping, brazing and soldering metals.
• Repairs leaks in metal roofs, walls and ceilings by soldering, crimping, riveting, and welding seams in sheet metal.
• Alters, repairs and maintains motor vehicles, snow removal equipment, etc. by welding damaged parts and by cutting, brazing and riveting sheet metal floorboard replacements.
• Maintains masonry on bridges, walls and fence posts in connection with welding functions.
• Performs related duties such as determining if materials can be repaired by welding, erecting fences, installing reinforcement rods, and cleaning bridge components.
