Job summary

BKF Engineers seeks Bridges & Structures Project Engineer to deliver highway and rail structure projects across California, contributing to coordinated, constructible designs from design through construction.

The role requires 3+ years in bridge/structural engineering, a BS in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D. EIT preferred; PE licensure prioritized.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering or related field.
• EIT certification highly preferred; PE licensure prioritized.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate bridge and structural projects including highways and rail structures.
• Prepare structural design plans, details, calculations, and specifications per Caltrans/AASHTO/local regs.
• Develop structural analyses and load ratings for new and existing bridges; rehab/retrofit work.
• Design foundations and substructures (piles, drilled shafts, footings, abutments, piers) with seismic considerations.
• Prepare quantities, estimates, and construction cost evaluations for projects.
• Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, drainage, utility, and construction teams for integrated designs.
• Prepare technical reports, structural assessments, feasibility studies and analyses.
• Apply applicable codes and regulatory requirements including seismic safety.
• Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance; liaise with agencies/contractors.
• Collaborate with agencies, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders throughout planning to construction phases.
