Job summary

BKF Engineers in California seeks a Project Engineer for the Bridges & Structures team to design and coordinate highway and rail structures from concept to construction, supporting agency requirements and constructability across regions.

With 3+ years in bridge/structural engineering and a ABET-accredited degree, you will perform analyses, load ratings, and foundation design while collaborating with multiple offices and partners, including public agencies and contractors.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of bridge and structural engineering experience.
• ABET-accredited degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.
• EIT preferred; PE licensure prioritized.
• Strong written and verbal communication; collaborative work style.
• Experience applying Caltrans/AASHTO and seismic design standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate bridge and transportation structures across California.
• Prepare design plans, details, calculations, and specifications per codes.
• Develop structural analysis and load ratings for bridges (new and existing).
• Design foundations and substructures with geotechnical and seismic considerations.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs, estimates, and construction cost evaluations.
• Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, drainage, utility, and construction teams.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and alternatives analyses.
• Ensure compliance with codes and permitting requirements.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals for conformance.
• Collaborate with agencies, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
