Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking a Project Engineer on the Bridges & Structures team to deliver bridge projects across California, from design through construction. You will contribute to coordinated structural solutions that meet agency requirements and constructability needs, collaborating with multiple BKF offices.

The role requires 3+ years in bridge/structural engineering, a ABET-accredited civil engineering degree, and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3+ years of bridge and structural engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.
• EIT certification preferred; PE licensure prioritized.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordination of bridge and structural projects, including highways, overpasses, retaining walls, culverts, and related structures.
• Prepare structural design plans, details, calculations, and specifications per Caltrans, AASHTO, local agencies, and seismic standards.
• Develop structural analysis and load rating calculations for new and existing bridges and retrofits.
• Design foundations and substructures (piles, drilled shafts, footings, abutments, piers) with geotechnical/seismic considerations.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs, estimates, and construction cost evaluations for bridge projects.
• Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, drainage, utility, and construction teams for integrated designs.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and alternatives analyses supporting projects.
• Ensure compliance with codes and permit requirements; review submittals for design intent.
