Job summary

Qualifications

• CDL required within 11 months of employment and maintained thereafter.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements on bridges and culverts.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Ability to work at heights, in heavy traffic, over and in water and under adverse conditions.

Responsibilities

• Repair, maintain and replace bridges and structures per safety standards and VDOT specs.
• Perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing tasks on projects.
• Place temporary bridges and manage emergency operations including snow/ice removal.
• Apply in-stream and environmental protection measures during work.
• Operate light to medium highway equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Follow safety rules, wear PPE and maintain a clean, safe work site.
