Job summary

Qualifications

• CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements on bridges and culverts.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Ability to work at heights, over and in water, in heavy traffic and under other adverse conditions.
• Knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials and safety practices.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skill in carpentry, concrete forming and finishing, and welding.
• Skill in the operation and use of light and medium-duty equipment, as well as in the use of hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Repair, maintain and replace bridges and structures according to safety standards and VDOT specs.
• Perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing tasks.
• Remove and install structural components to erect or demolish structures.
• Place temporary bridges and manage emergency operations like snow/ice removal.
• Operate highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Ensure site safety and use PPE; follow OSHA and VOSHA rules.
