Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking skilled workers to repair, maintain and replace bridges and structures in compliance with safety standards. You will perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing, install/remove structural components, and operate highway equipment as part of a crew.

Emphasis on safety, team collaboration, and preventative maintenance. Minimum qualifications include CDL/DOT qualifications, ability for heavy manual labor, and strong math for layouts.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, bridge maintenance or related field.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor and basic math for layouts.
• Knowledge of safety practices and use of PPE.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing tasks.
• Remove/install structural components to erect, replace or demolish structures.
• Place temporary bridges and manage damage removal during emergencies.
• Operate light/medium highway equipment for maintenance work.
• Apply proper worksite safety and traffic control measures.
• Participate as a crew member for projects and maintenance.
• Perform preventative maintenance and pre-trip checks on equipment.
