Job summary

NV5’s Morristown, NJ office is seeking a motivated Project Engineer (Bridges) to join our team working on diverse public and private infrastructure projects. The role involves leading bridge design efforts and mentoring junior staff while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

The position requires 4–8 years of bridge engineer experience, EIT certification, and proficiency with major design tools. NV5 offers a four-day work week in New Jersey and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering is required; M.S. is a plus.
• EIT is required.
• PE license is preferred but not required; ability to obtain within 1 year after starting.
• 4–8 years of experience as a bridge engineer, including design, plan preparation, structural analysis, design, quantity calculation, and construction support services.
• Proficiency with AASHTO LRFD, MicroStation (ORD a plus)/InRoads, and structural design software (LARS, STAAD, LEAP, etc.).
• Experience with NJDOT, NJTA, and PANYNJ projects.
• Strong communication, organizational, and team leadership skills.
• Ability to work in a team setting and independently complete engineering calculations for reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel structures.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor junior staff (1+ engineers) on technical design and project tasks.
• Lead the planning, administration, and design of structural bridge projects, ensuring compliance with state and federal standards.
• Conduct detailed structural analysis and design for various bridge projects.
• Develop and review engineering calculations for reinforced and prestressed concrete, steel structures, and other materials.
• Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, plans, specifications, and estimates.
• Utilize engineering software packages such as STAAD, PennDOT ABLRFD, L-Pile, and MathCAD for project delivery.
• Ensure timely delivery of PS&E contract documents, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams across locations.
• Conduct quality control and assurance activities to maintain high standards in project execution.
• Develop quantities and cost estimates, ensuring projects stay within budget.
• Utilize CADD to develop detailed bridge plans and specifications.
• Maintain knowledge of industry standards, code requirements, and client objectives.
• Conduct/lead field work oversight, including surveys, data collection, construction observation, and support (RFIs, submittals, change orders).
