Job summary

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. is seeking a full-time Bridge Project Engineer in our Structural Business Unit with opportunities across multiple Midwest offices. This role requires 5+ years of experience and a PE license.

The candidate will perform structural calculations, review drawings, and help prepare reports and cost estimates for bridge projects. BS in Civil Engineering is required; MS preferred. Proficiency in MicroStation and bridge design software is expected.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
• Illinois PE license preferred (structural).
• Experience with IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge projects is a firm requirement.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in MicroStation.
• Knowledge of Structural Bridge Design Software.
• Bridge inspection experience preferred.
• Ability to traverse structural sites, heights and rough terrain.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Follow Bridge Practice production and design standards and procedures as delegated by the Project Manager.
• Perform and check structural engineering calculations of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation infrastructure structures using company, client, and industry standards.
• Participate in the preparation and checking of structural construction drawings created by teammates to meet firm and client requirements.
• Develop and check cost estimates.
• Participate in the preparation of reports and studies.
