Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a qualified professional to plan and direct the bridge repair, maintenance, and replacement program for a defined geographic area in accordance with safety standards and VDOT procedures.

You will manage budgets, plan projects, oversee maintenance crews, and ensure environmental and safety compliance while coordinating with the public and other stakeholders to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to resolve citizen complaints and other issues.
• Ability to gather data, conduct research, and create reports.
• Ability to read and interpret bridge and structure plans and standards.
• Ability to schedule, plan, and monitor work activities.
• Considerable knowledge of structure and bridge maintenance methods, procedures, practices, and equipment.
• Knowledge of budgets, cost estimates, and inventory management.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles, policies and practices and experience to manage supervisory and crew personnel.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Budget and Business Management: Prepare cost estimates for projects and monitor spending; assist in budgeting and report costs.
• Manage preventive maintenance and utilization of equipment to meet business needs.
• Coordinate with public and internal customers to resolve issues.
• Coordinate safety and compliance with environmental requirements.
• Support emergency operations including snow removal and traffic control.
• Review inspection reports and plan maintenance or replacement.
