Job summary

State of Missouri's Southwest District is seeking a Bridge Maintenance Worker to perform maintenance and repairs on bridges in the state highway system. The role operates under general supervision and includes traffic control duties and equipment operation.

Required are a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and CDL with tanker endorsement within 60 days, plus annual medical and respirator testing. MoDOT offers excellent benefits and pension opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET required.
• Valid driver's license.
• A passing grade on the CDL written exam is required prior to hire; must pass driving portion with tanker endorsement, Class B, interstate status within 60 days.
• Annual cardiopulmonary function test, respirator training, and respirator fit test every six months.
• Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency repairs to bridges, including concrete bridge repairs and structural steel repairs, paint and seal bridge caps, and perform deck repair and replacement.
• Paint structural steel bridges, including hanging scaffolding, cleaning and preparing bridge surfaces for painting, and mixing and applying paint using conventional or airless paint sprayers and related equipment.
• Assist in preventative maintenance functions on bridges in the state highway system.
• Set up traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and flags; flags traffic for work zones.
• Operate vehicles and equipment to transport materials and crew to job sites; clean and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
