Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a general highway maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment and assist in bridge maintenance and repair on the state highway system.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Perform general highway maintenance and operate heavy equipment (backhoe, excavator, lowboy) to repair bridge deficiencies.
• Maintain and preserve bridges on the state highway system; assist in emergency/inclement weather operations.
• Place traffic control devices to set up a maintenance work zone per manuals and field guides.
