Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator to support bridge maintenance and related construction activities on the state highway system. You will operate a range of heavy equipment and assist with grading, concrete work, and applying traffic control measures.

Must have at least two years of related work experience or an equivalent; hold a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or an approved equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Willingness to work outside normal hours and in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of equipment for bridge construction, repair and preservation on the state highway system.
• Perform grading, mowing, sweeping, concrete work, cutting, painting, and installing steel sections.
• Set up and place traffic control devices following the Work Zone Manual.
• Assist with emergency and weather-related operations; may require extended shifts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
