Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks skilled workers to support bridge maintenance and roadway projects in Columbia. You will operate heavy equipment, perform concrete and steel work, and assist in traffic control to ensure safe work zones.

Candidates must have two years of related experience or an approved equivalence, and a valid driver’s license with CDL Class A within six months. Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and work in variable weather is required.

Qualifications

• Ability to work shifts including extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate construction and bridge maintenance equipment across projects.
• Perform tasks such as grading, mowing, concrete work, painting, and installing steel.
• Set up and manage traffic control in work zones per guidelines.
• Respond to emergencies and inclement weather; may require long shifts.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
