Qualifications

  • One year of related work experience.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general highway maintenance worker functions and operates heavy equipment including backhoe, mini excavator, and lowboy truck tractor and trailer to repair bridge deficiencies.
  • Operates medium equipment such as a skid steer and tandem dump truck in bridge construction, repair, and preservation.
  • Performs bridge maintenance activities using tools like saws, hoists, power tools, measuring devices, and welders.
  • Places traffic control devices to set up a maintenance work zone per SCDOT guidelines.
  • Supports emergency and inclement weather operations; may work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
