Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Specialty Crew Leader to oversee bridge maintenance crews across a district. You will supervise daily activities, enforce safety practices, and ensure accurate reporting in the maintenance data system.

Responsibilities include planning tasks, coordinating equipment and materials, directing traffic control setups per the Work Zone Traffic Control Manual, and assisting the foreman. A Class A CDL is required within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Two and one-half (2.5) years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver's license and obtain Class A CDL within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Oversee bridge maintenance crews across a district, coordinating construction, repair and preservation activities.
• Assist the Specialty Crew Foreman as needed and instruct crew in safety practices daily.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones per manual and guide.
• Assist in planning and scheduling routine and preventive maintenance activities.
• Determine equipment, materials and labor needed to complete tasks.
• Input data and run reports in the maintenance data management system and perform QA/QC checks.
• Perform skilled manual labor and operate equipment such as skid steers, excavators, snooper/ bucket trucks, forklifts, and more.
• Manage assigned crew(s) during emergencies or inclement weather; extended hours or 12-hour shifts may be required.
