Job summary

Burgess & Niple is seeking a Civil Engineer Co-op in Bridge Inspection in Portland, OR. You will collaborate with Professional Engineers, Engineers-In-Training, and Technicians to inspect bridges, integrating field data with design calculations.

Qualifications

• Undergrad pursuing a BS in Civil or Structural Engineering in an ABET-accredited program.
• Interest in bridge/structural inspection; prior co-ops/internships are a plus.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Able to learn PDF markup tools such as BlueBeam Revu or Acrobat.
• Able to learn MicroStation or AutoCAD/Civil3D; prior experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Available for full-time Summer 2027; possibly through Fall 2028.
• Physical ability to lift 60 lbs and work at heights with safety gear.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Learn bridge inspection per NBIS/SNBI guidelines for state DOTs and local agencies.
• Perform field assessments and document existing conditions of bridges and ancillary structures; compile data and carry out simple analyses.
• Learn safe work practices and access techniques for bridge inspection.
• Work alongside rope access experts; travel to project sites; occasional overnight trips.
• Travel up to 40% across the U.S. to support projects.
