The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Bridge Section is seeking a Bridge Engineer to design and analyze bridges and related structures. Work with AASHTO LRFD and relevant seismic design guides, and help implement techniques for project delivery across Alaska.

This position is based in Juneau, with travel opportunities statewide. A PE or Architect license is required, with Alaska comity rules if licensed elsewhere.

Engineer / Architect 1 -$3,741.75 Biweekly (Non-OT eligible)

Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1 -$4,283.25 Biweekly (Non-OT eligible)

What you will be doing:

This professional engineering position specializes in the design and analysis of bridges and other transportation structures. The AASHTO LRFD and Bridge Design Specifications and of the AASHTO Guide Specifications for LRFD Seismic Bridge Design are used frequently for this work. Additionally, this statewide technical engineering specialist develops and applies bridge engineering techniques, approaches, and procedures. This position may perform federally mandated bridge inspections on an intermittent basis throughout the state ensuring structural adequacy and public safety.

Who we are looking for:

• Structural Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the design and analysis of complex structures using a variety of materials. Structures may include aerospace systems or structures, and other determinate or indeterminate systems.
• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one's knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
• Written Communication: Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
• Design: Knowledge of conceptualizing, developing, producing, understanding, and using plans, models, blueprints, and maps, including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings, working prototypes, components, or systems.

Special Note:

• State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors – Registration as a Professional Civil or Structural Engineer.
• Physical ability to descend / ascend bridge embankments and riverbanks.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer / Architect 1

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1

Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect, and two years of professional engineering or architectural experience as an Engineer 1, Architectural Assistant 3 or higher with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
