Job Description

EMH&T has an opportunity for a Bridge Engineer, PE to join our Transportation Planning & Design team located in Columbus, OH.

As a Bridge Engineer, you will work collaboratively with the project team to develop creative solutions to address client needs and solve design and construction challenges that may arise.

Our Transportation Planning & Design projects typically involve the design or redesign of highways and roadways, interchange design, drainage design, plan reviews, and coordination with public regulatory agencies and utility companies. Our work includes bridges and structures from overpasses to footpaths.

Desired Skills

  • Ability to lead design and tasks for structural efforts supporting public and private infrastructure and development, including unique and non-standard projects.
  • Participate in developing contract plans, preparing engineer's estimates, construction specifications, and providing field support services.
  • Develop reports/studies, specifications, plans, and designs for projects of varying sizes and clients, exploring subject areas, defining scope, and developing novel concepts.
  • Work with limited supervision and consultation.
  • Provide cost, personnel, and material estimates; assist in establishing completion dates and preparing proposals; may assist with client presentations.
  • Review project designs and plans from junior engineers for accuracy and completeness, delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • Ensure project completion within the allocated time and budget, meeting quality control and assurance standards.
  • Maintain liaison with internal and external individuals and units, acting independently on technical matters.

Qualifications

  • Professional license in Ohio.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or MS) in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Design experience with reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel beams (straight and curved).
  • Experience with wood and masonry is a plus.
  • Experience with CAD and design software such as OpenRoads, OpenBridge Designer, AutoCAD/Civil3D, Merlin Dash, MIDAS, AASHTO BrR, Leap Bridge, PyWall, L-Pile.
  • Experience with public transportation projects (ODOT, Municipal, County) and familiarity with steel and reinforced concrete designs per ODOT and AASHTO standards.
  • Experience with railroad structures and AREMA standards is a plus.
  • Bridge inspection experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to lead technical projects of varying complexity and communicate effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrated coursework and experience designing bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and foundations.
