Job summary

GPI in Shelton, CT is seeking a Bridge Design Engineer with 5-15 years of bridge/structural design experience to join our growing transportation team.

You will perform analysis, prepare design plans, work with multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with AASHTO/CTDOT, and support project delivery on state and local agency projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 5–15 years of bridge/structural design experience
  • PE license in CT preferred or ability to obtain
  • Experience with bridge design plans and calculations
  • Familiarity with AASHTO and CTDOT standards
  • Experience with structural analysis and design software
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for bridges and transportation structures
  • Prepare preliminary and final design plans, calculations, and specifications
  • Develop cost estimates and assist with contract documents
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and support project delivery
  • Participate in client meetings and support project communication
  • Conduct site visits and inspections as needed
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (AASHTO, CTDOT)
  • Ability to work independently

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design for bridge and transportation structures
  • Prepare preliminary and final design plans, calculations, and specifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 5-15 years of bridge/structural design experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in CT (or ability to obtain) preferred
  • Experience preparing bridge design plans and calculations
  • Familiarity with AASHTO and state CTDOT standards
  • Experience with structural analysis and design software
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
Requirements
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19\" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
