Job summary

Farnsworth Group, a national architectural, engineering, and surveying firm, is seeking a Bridge Associate I in Illinois. You will contribute to the design and analysis of bridge and transportation projects, perform structural calculations, and develop construction plans using MicroStation and AutoCAD.

This role offers hands-on experience on DOT projects, mentorship from engineers, and opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative team across multiple offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
• 0-2 years’ experience designing structural systems for bridge projects.
• Knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, or other engineering design software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Interest and/or familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT): permitting agency and industry design; permitting and construction standards; and/or policies and procedures.
• Valid state driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle check or reliable transportation to/from the office or project site.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis of bridge and infrastructure project elements.
• Develop load calculations and structural design computations for project components.
• Prepare organized, detailed structural calculations and technical documentation.
• Design and draft structural elements, details, and connection designs.
• Develop plans and specifications using MicroStation software.
• Prepare complete and reviewable task deliverables that meet quality standards.
• Complete assigned tasks on schedule and within established project budgets.
• Work independently under the guidance of Project Managers and Project Engineers.
• Review and check structural calculations and design work.
• Participate in coordination meetings with multidisciplinary project teams.
