Job summary

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) seeks a Structural Bridge Engineer for our Richmond, Williamsburg or Virginia Beach locations.

This full-time role is hybrid, focusing on planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge projects for transportation infrastructure. You will review plans, develop design calculations, load ratings, and reports, and collaborate with a team to meet schedule, cost, and quality goals.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis is preferred.
• EIT certification; PE preferred.
• 3+ years of structural bridge design experience.
• Knowledge of AASHTO and DOT guidelines.
• Ability to work in a hybrid Virginia office.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specs, reports to ensure scope, schedule, cost, quality.
• Support structural planning and design documents for bridge projects.
• Develop design plans, calculations, load ratings, cost estimates.
• Ensure production of plans and analyses meet standards.
• Review and create inspections/evaluations, load ratings.
• Assist engineers with bridge/design detailing across structures.
• Perform project scoping studies and alternatives analysis.
• Prepare construction contracts and technical reports.
