Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson in Richmond, VA is seeking a Bridge Design Engineer to work on transportation structures per AASHTO and VDOT specs. You will work under the PM, collaborate with PE's, and gain experience across steel plate girders, prestressed concrete, foundations, and related systems.

The role emphasizes design calculations, plan details, reports, quantity/cost estimates, submittals, and field inspection support. Full-time, on-site, with comprehensive benefits and ESOP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structures.
• 0–5 years of highway bridge and transportation structure design experience.
• Experience with structural analysis software (MathCAD, MicroStation) and MS Office.
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and VDOT bridge design practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bridge and transportation structure design and analysis.
• Prepare design calculations and plans per VDOT/AASHTO standards.
• Support quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates.
• Coordinate with survey, roadway, and drainage disciplines.
• Assist with field inspections and submittals.
