Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia’s Careers division is seeking a hands-on Bridge Maintenance Supervisor to lead a work crew in repairing, maintaining, and replacing bridges and structures in line with VDOT specifications and safety standards. You will plan daily goals, coach the crew, and document progress, while ensuring quality and safety on every task.

The role requires strong carpentry, welding, and concrete finishing skills, plus proven leadership and the ability to work under demanding conditions.

Qualifications

• Lead a crew to repair, maintain and replace bridges per safety standards and VDOT specs.
• Coordinate carpentry, welding and concrete finishing tasks on structures.
• Direct emergency operations including temporary bridges and snow/ice removal.
• Apply environmental protection measures during maintenance and construction work.
• Operate and maintain equipment; perform preventive maintenance and manual labor.
• Uphold safety rules; train crew and maintain a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, direct and train crew to meet objectives safely and on time.
• Plan daily work, monitor performance and document accomplishments.
• Perform skilled tasks in carpentry, welding and concrete finishing.
• Manage equipment operation and preventive maintenance programs.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA/VOSHA and MUTCD requirements.
