Job summary

Maternal and Family Health Services, Inc. in Montgomery County seeks a WIC Peer Counselor to provide basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding participants.

You will counsel mothers at the WIC clinic or by phone, document contacts, promote breastfeeding, arrange referrals, and support group activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Must be a current or former WIC participant who has breastfed.

Responsibilities

• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers at the clinic or by telephone.
• Provide and document breastfeeding contacts and promote breastfeeding.
• Refer moms to the statewide breastfeeding hotline after hours.
• Refer clients to WIC Nutritionists, lactation consultants, or public programs.
• Attend prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups.
• Network with hospitals and clinics to establish a county breastfeeding referral resource.
• Schedule WIC appointments per guidelines.
• Attend trainings and read required materials.
• Demonstrate breast pump use and maintain equipment.
• Support MFHS organizational goals.
