Job summary

Hamilton Health Center is seeking a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to provide education, encouragement, and support to WIC participants throughout their breastfeeding journey. This role strengthens community health through hands-on guidance, both in person and virtually, helping mothers navigate challenges with confidence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Personal experience breastfeeding at least one child per PA WIC guidelines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Basic computer proficiency is required.
• Reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic breastfeeding education and ongoing support to WIC mothers.
• Maintain a caseload and conduct routine follow-ups (in-person, phone, virtual, home, or hospital visits).
• Assist with common breastfeeding concerns and provide encouragement and guidance.
• Document all participant interactions accurately and in compliance with program guidelines.
• Refer participants to Nutritionists or supervisors when needs exceed scope of role.
• Support prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups.
• Connect participants with community resources and services.
• Participate in required trainings, meetings, and peer counselor sessions.
• Assist with clinic operations, including satellite clinic support as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with all program standards.
