Job summary

Kenosha YMCA is seeking an Achievers Teacher to supervise up to 12 participants in grades K-8 afterschool. You will plan and implement engaging reading- and math-focused lessons, guided by Achievers Leadership, using project-based learning.

You will promote safety, positive youth development, maintain records, supervise volunteers, and participate in ongoing professional development to meet program standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience with children under 13.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to supervise and support volunteers.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certificates must be current.

  • Serves as a positive role model and demonstrates positive youth development approaches.
  • Ensures the safety and engagement of children in assigned group.

BE A PART OF SOMETHING GREATThis position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Achievers Teacher is responsible for the daily supervision of up to 12 Achievers program participants grades K-8. The individual is responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of all nine program components and program activities in the afterschool program with a concentration on Reading and Math subject areas. The Achievers Teacher guides the academic and social development of children; ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. Young Achievers Teachers use best teaching practices and a variety of resources provided by Achievers Leadership to introduce new skills throughout the execution of activities. To accomplish this, Teachers are required to participate in ongoing professional development and planning sessions with Achievers Leadership on a scheduled basis.Job ResponsibilitiesFacilitates a program environment that is welcoming and inviting to all.Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior and understand positive youth development approaches to the academic and social development of youth.Ensures the safety and engagement of children in assigned group.Plans lesson and facilitate lessons based on best teaching practices using purposeful and engaging activities that are focused on themes, project-based, Kagan’s Cooperative Learning strategies, experiential learning.Provides assistance with classroom work and encourages academic progress.Follows program lesson plans and implementation plans in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.Demonstrates competency with the DESSA assessment tool and an understanding of the MAPS Wisconsin state standardized test.Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others. Maintains on-going communication with supervisor.Maintain accurate classroom records according to program requirements.Communicates regularly with parents; attends parent/family events as designated by supervisor.Demonstrates a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, policies and YMCA standardsEnsures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.Supervises volunteers and assistant teachers.Must be at least 18 years of age or older.High School Diploma or equivalent.
