Job description

Orange County, California, United States

The Brand & Content Manager will own all responsibilities outside of paid advertising. The focus of this role will be setting the brand and marketing strategy, knowing what separates strong work from weak work, and directing writers, designers, and agencies to consistently produce work that clears that bar. This is a working role. You will write briefs, edit drafts, shape messaging, and own the highest-stakes pieces yourself.

Key Responsibilities:
Brand & Marketing Strategy
  • Own the long-term brand and marketing strategy across three brands, and translate it into quarterly priorities.
  • Define positioning, audience, and core message for each brand so each has a clear reason to exist.
  • Decide where effort and budget go: which channels, which audiences, which content, and what we stop doing.
  • Own and enforce brand standards, including voice, visual identity, and the asset library.
Content Direction
  • Own the editorial calendar across written, visual, and video content for all three brands.
  • Set the editorial standard. Define what quality looks like for our audience, and make it explicit enough that writers and designers can hit it.
  • Write the briefs, direct the work, and edit what comes back with specific feedback on why it does or does not meet the bar.
  • Own the highest-stakes work directly: positioning, launch messaging, and the pieces that set the tone for everything else.
  • Own distribution, not just production. Plan how each asset gets reused across channels and audiences.
  • Partner with Sales to turn recurring customer questions, objections, and wins into published content.
Email Marketing
  • Own email strategy: cadence, calendar, segmentation, and lifecycle flows.
  • Direct the email team or agency on what to send, to whom, and when, rather than approving what they propose.
  • Set and run the testing roadmap: subject lines, offers, send times, and creative, tested one variable at a time.
  • Analyze the results and make the call on what changes. Own the read on the data, not just the report.
  • Own the scope, performance, and relationship for all marketing agencies and freelancers.
  • Set clear deliverables and success metrics for every vendor, and run a documented monthly review against them.
  • Assess current agencies within the first 90 days and make a keep, renegotiate, or replace call on each, with the authority to execute it.
  • Maintain a bench of vetted freelance writers, editors, and video resources to flex capacity without adding headcount.
  • Manage the remote creative team, currently content and design.
  • Set output standards and review cadence, and give direct feedback against them.
  • Build the department's operating system: briefs, intake, review, approval, and publishing workflow in Asana.
  • Report monthly to leadership on output, channel performance, and contribution to pipeline.
Qualifications:
Required
  • Five to eight years in marketing, with at least three owning content or brand rather than executing someone else's plan.
  • Strong editorial judgment. You can read a draft and articulate specifically why it works or does not, then rewrite the brief so the next one is better.
  • Ablility to write and edit at a professional standard, and to direct video and design work without operating the software yourself.
  • Comfortable with campaign data. You can read performance and decide what to change, not just report what happened.
  • Experience managing remote contractors and outside agencies, including holding them to metrics and ending a relationship that was not working.
  • Experience marketing a technical or high-consideration product to businesses or institutions, where the buying cycle runs weeks to months.
  • Comfortable as the senior marketing voice in the room without a large team or budget behind you.
  • Working knowledge of Shopify, Google Analytics, Klaviyo or similar, and Asana or similar.
Preferred
  • Experience marketing to public sector or institutional buyers, or in a multi-brand portfolio.
  • Drone, robotics, imaging, or adjacent hardware category experience.
  • Hands-on video or design ability. Useful, not required.
Compensation

$110,000 to $135,000 base, depending on experience
