Job summary

CarMax seeks a Senior Art Director – Brand in Richmond, VA to drive creative vision for brand channels and stores. This role blends strategy, branding, and design to deliver high-quality assets, collaborating with cross-functional teams under the Brand team.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in art direction/branding, a strong portfolio, and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. Reports to Associate Creative Director; fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Digital Media, Advertising, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience in art direction, branding or related creative role.
• Strong portfolio in art direction, identity, brand storytelling, and leadership.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign); Figma is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead creative concepting and art direction across brand channels and stores.
• Develop and maintain brand systems, style/guidelines, and installation guides.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align with strategic objectives and brand guidelines.
• Pitch concepts, present work, and articulate rationale to stakeholders.
• Mentor peers, manage multiple projects, and balance speed with quality.
• Explore AI/GenAI opportunities to optimize campaigns and assets.
