Job summary

Oakwood School is seeking a Boys Freshman Basketball Head Coach to lead and develop the Freshman Boys program. The role focuses on player growth, team strategy, and program success, with travel and evening/weekend commitments.

The position requires 1-2 years of coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level, and a solid understanding of basketball fundamentals. CPR/First Aid or certification is required, and a valid driver’s license is essential.

Qualifications

• Passion for coaching student athletes.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize.
• Experience working and communicating with diverse groups of people.
• Ability to motivate, teach, and recruit student‑athletes to reach their full potential.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• CPR & First Aid Certification required or ability to be certified.

Responsibilities

• Player evaluation and development to determine playing time and readiness for advancement.
• Team leadership to foster a disciplined, respectful culture and design effective practices.
• Student athlete support and mentorship focusing on growth and academic progress.
• Maintain clear communication with players, parents, JV/Varsity coaches and athletic directors.
• Transport players to road contests using a school vehicle.
