Job summary

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) to join a large federal agency protecting the United States. The BPA role offers entry to mid-level career paths with robust benefits and potential incentives, including relocation and academy completion considerations.

Salary ranges reflect grade levels from GL-5 to GS-11, with entitlement to health, dental, and other insurance plans, leave benefits, and the Thrift Savings Plan.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of immigration and nationality law.
• Familiarity with use of force policy and firearms.
• Understanding of criminal law and procedure and evidence handling.
• Ability to apply physical techniques in self-defense.
• Experience with basic operation of motor vehicles and pursuit scenarios.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration or custom violations.
• Pursue and apprehend undocumented individuals and smugglers when applicable.
• Interpret tracks, evidence, and documents to verify citizenship and eligibility.
• Conduct checks on farms, buildings, traffic, and transportation during patrols.
• Patrol borders and waterways using government assets to fulfill mission.
