Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) at multiple grades across the United States. The role involves enforcing immigration and customs laws, protecting the border, and providing federal benefits, health, dental, and retirement options.

Incentives are available to recruit and retain qualified candidates. Selections range from GL-5 to GS-11 levels with potential promotion to GS-12.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision-making, and composure under stress.
• Bachelor's degree or completion of a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Combination of general work experience and college education can qualify as well.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
• Inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using various assets.
