Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) for full-time entry- and mid-level positions across the United States.

Compensation includes base pay, federal benefits, leave, and a Thrift Savings Plan, with recruitment and retention incentives of up to $50,000 and up to $30,000 in additional incentives. BPAs protect the nation by inspecting travelers and goods, and by interdicting unauthorized entries near borders, using a range of vehicles and technology.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience or equivalent demonstrated ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and stay composed in stressful situations.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; education substitution allowed.
• Combination of experience and education may be considered with resume/transcripts.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders using surveillance and other assets.
• Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks and patrol assigned areas.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, and other equipment.
