Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at experienced levels (GL-9/GS-11) with up to $60,000 in new-hire incentives and retention bonuses. The role includes base pay from $65,545 to $124,717 annually, locality pay, and overtime.

Relocation may be required and duty assignments span multiple sectors nationwide. Candidates with prior law enforcement or military police experience may qualify for higher-graded opportunities.

Qualifications

• GL-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: physical searches, apprehending violators, firearms use and evidence gathering.
• GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: tracking illegal operations, leading investigations, apprehending violators with advanced tech.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, and inspecting documents and possessions.
• Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers at or near the borders with surveillance.
• Interpreting tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using various assets.
