Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agent (BPA) – Experienced (GL‑9 / GS‑11) for full‑time, career positions with sign‑on and retention incentives up to $60,000.

Base pay ranges from $65,545 to $124,717 per year, plus locality pay and overtime; relocation may be required. Duties include detecting and questioning individuals suspected of immigration violations, patrolling the border, and using vehicles, aircraft, and foot patrol for enforcement.

Qualifications

• GL‑9: one year of specialized experience in law enforcement duties.
• GS‑11: one year of specialized experience in lead investigations and enforcement.
• Proficiency in firearms, reports, and evidence gathering.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of visa/immigration violations.
• Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers near borders by maintaining surveillance and using covert and overt patrol methods.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Patrolling the international boundary and using various assets (vehicles, horses, vessels, off‑road vehicles, etc.).
• Performing patrols and checks to enforce immigration laws and protect border security.
