Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is urgently hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) at the full-time, entry and mid-level career stages. BPAs earn base pay with federal benefits and may receive recruitment and retention incentives. Duty locations span numerous sectors across the United States.

Typical duties include border surveillance, questioning individuals, and enforcing immigration and customs laws. Education or related public safety experience can qualify for GL-5 to GL-12 levels.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge, make sound decisions and stay calm under stress.
• Bachelor's degree or completion of a four-year course of study from an accredited college or university; or a combination of experience and education.

Responsibilities

• Question and document checks to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various assets.
