Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (Border Patrol) seeks entry‑level Border Patrol Agents (GL‑5/GL‑7) for full‑time career roles at multiple duty locations. The position offers a structured pay ladder with locality pay, plus sign‑on and retention incentives for eligible new hires.

As a BPA, you join a large federal force protecting the borders, performing inspections, detentions, and patrols. Training at the Academy precedes deployment, with opportunities for advancement based on time in service

Qualifications

• GL-5 requires 1 year of general work experience demonstrating decision making and composure under stress.
• GL-5 substitution: bachelor’s degree or 4-year degree.
• Combination of experience and education considered with transcripts.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders.
• Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry.
• Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using government assets.
