Job summary

Barnes & Noble College in Pembroke, NC, is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support daily store operations and drive sales while delivering excellent customer service.

You will supervise staff, assist with scheduling, training, and inventory, and partner with the Store Manager to meet goals.

This role requires flexibility, strong communication, and a passion for serving the campus community.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in a retail setting.
• 1+ year supervisory experience preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Familiarity with financial and customer service principles.
• Basic reading, writing and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support store operations and departments in partnership with the Store Manager or General Manager.
• Involved in purchasing for departments and directing operations.
• Schedule and develop the team while delivering outstanding customer service.
• Train, direct, and counsel team to create excitement around products and initiatives.
• Drive customer experiences that enhance bookstore loyalty and sales results.
• Greet customers on the sales floor and assist with purchases.
• Address customer and employee issues promptly and respectfully.
• Assist with hiring and training new employees.
