Job summary

Near is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to own daily bookkeeping and month-end close for a US-based, remote, full-time contractor role. You will manage AP/AR, reconcile ledgers, and review ecommerce activity on platforms like Amazon and Shopify.

The position requires independent work, strong communication with leadership, and a proactive approach to maintain accurate financial records. You will work during US business hours and contribute to process improvements, automation, and lender reporting

Qualifications

• 5+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience.
• Ownership of month-end close processes.
• Strong experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Knowledge of AP, AR, reconciliations, P&L and Balance Sheet.
• Detail-oriented with focus on accurate reporting.
• Able to learn the business quickly and communicate issues proactively.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping, including accounts payable and receivable.
• Own the month-end close and ensure timely, accurate books.
• Prepare and reconcile P&L and Balance Sheet accounts.
• Perform bank, account, and GL reconciliations.
• Monitor operating expenses, COGS, and reporting impacts.
• Support financial and lender reporting using templates.
• Maintain records in QuickBooks Online and reconcile transactions.
• Review Amazon/Shopify ecommerce activity for accounting.
• Identify missing information early and escalate to deadlines.
• Help improve accounting processes and automation as the business grows.

Our client is a growing US-based self-care and consumer products company specializing in wellness products sold through e-commerce and retail channels. The business generates the majority of its revenue through online sales, particularly Amazon and Shopify, while also maintaining a strong retail presence. The company operates within a multi-brand consumer goods group and is looking to strengthen its in-house finance operations as it continues to grow.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of the company’s day-to-day bookkeeping and month-end close processes. This person will manage core accounting activities, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure reporting deadlines are consistently met.

The ideal candidate is highly proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently. You will work closely with the company’s leadership team and become deeply familiar with the business, its operating expenses, cost of goods, and e-commerce operations. This is a hands‑on role where strong communication and ownership are essential.

This is a remote, full-time contractor role aligned with US business hours.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Own the month-end close process and ensure books are accurate and completed on schedule.
• Prepare and reconcile P&L and Balance Sheet accounts.
• Perform bank, account, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Monitor operating expenses, cost of goods sold, and changes that may impact financial reporting.
• Support financial reporting and lender-related reporting using established templates and processes.
• Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online and ensure transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
• Review e-commerce accounting activity from platforms such as Amazon and Shopify.
• Identify missing information or potential issues early and proactively communicate them before they impact deadlines.
• Help improve accounting processes, documentation, and automation as the business grows.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related role.
• Proven experience owning or actively managing month-end close processes.
• Strong hands‑on experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Solid knowledge of AP, AR, reconciliations, P&L, and Balance Sheet.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate financial reporting.
• Highly proactive approach to identifying issues, following up on missing information, and meeting deadlines.
• Ability to learn a business and its accounting processes quickly.
• Experience with e-commerce accounting, particularly Amazon and/or Shopify, is a plus.
• Experience with A2X, accounting automation, or AI tools is a plus.
• Experience with inventory, COGS, or lender reporting is a plus.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Availability to work full‑time aligned with PST or EST business hours.
• Ability to work independently and take full ownership of assigned responsibilities.
