A E POWELL, INC. is seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our finance team in a remote capacity. You will manage day-to-day financial record-keeping, ensure accuracy, and support budgeting and reporting to uphold the organization’s financial health.

The role requires experience with major accounting software, strong GAAP knowledge, and meticulous data entry. Expect compensation in a competitive hourly range with benefits and flexible scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Record and process journal entries in QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, and other financial software.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations to ensure consistency across statements.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing and payment scheduling.
  • Prepare balance sheets and income statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist with governmental accounting, nonprofit accounting, and budgeting activities.
  • Process payroll and ensure payroll tax filings are compliant.

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeper to join our dynamic finance team. In this vital role, you will manage the day-to-day financial record-keeping processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Your expertise will help maintain the integrity of our financial data, support budgeting and reporting activities, and contribute to the overall financial health of our organization. Duties
  • Record and process journal entries accurately within various accounting systems, including QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, and other financial software.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations to ensure consistency across all financial statements.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing and payment scheduling.
  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger accounting to maintain precise financial records.
  • Process payroll and ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations, including payroll taxes and filings.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports, including statements of financial position (balance sheets) and income statements, adhering to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Assist with governmental accounting procedures, non-profit accounting standards, and budgeting activities as needed.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles with familiarity in public accounting or corporate accounting environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting software such as QuickBooks (including QuickBooks Online), Xero, Sage, and other financial management tools.
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts like double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, journal entries, and account analysis.
  • Skilled in spreadsheet management using Excel or similar tools for data analysis and report writing.
  • Experience with account reconciliation processes, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Ability to perform 10 key typing efficiently for data entry tasks.
  • Knowledge of GAAP standards, governmental accounting practices, and tax experience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail combined with strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple tasks accurately under deadlines.
