Job description

Join to apply for the Bookkeeper role at Ambrose Construction

Are you a bookkeeper that thrives when you have the freedom to manage your own work — and takes pride in getting every detail right? Do you want to join a builder that values craftsmanship — in the field and in the books?

At Ambrose Construction, we’ve spent the past 20 years building beautiful, high-end remodels and custom homes across Seattle — from Ballard to Mercer Island — with craftsmanship and integrity at the core of everything we do. We’re looking for a bookkeeper who shares those same values to help keep our financial foundation as strong as the homes we build.

About us:

For two decades, Ambrose Construction has been building and remodeling homes across Seattle with craftsmanship, integrity, and pride. Based in Georgetown, we specialize in high‑end residential projects — from thoughtful remodels to custom homes ranging from $750K to $2.5M+.

We’re a tight‑knit team of twelve who value collaboration, commitment, and doing things the right way. Our core values — Win as a Team, The Power of Commitment, Do the Right Thing, and Pride in Product and Process — guide everything we do.

Ambrose is also dedicated to giving back, supporting local housing and community improvement efforts throughout Seattle.

Summary of Responsibilities:

As the Bookkeeper at Ambrose Construction, you’ll manage the company’s full financial cycle — including payroll, billing, reporting, and tax preparation. You’ll ensure accuracy across accounts, support project profitability, and keep our books as solid as the homes we build.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee full‑cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
  • Track job costs and project budgets, providing timely financial insights to leadership
  • Prepare and distribute invoices, statements, and financial reports
  • Support quarterly and annual tax preparation, filings, and compliance activities
  • Maintain accurate, organized financial records using Sage 100 Contractor and Google Workspace
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, and project managers regarding billing and payments
  • Safeguard all company financial data and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Manage benefits administration and ensure insurance and subcontractor compliance
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally within the construction industry
  • Software: Familiarity with Sage 100 Contractor
  • Strong understanding of job costing, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Integrity, reliability, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Pay Range: $80,000–$100,000 annually (approximately $50/hour), depending on experience
  • 100% employer‑paid medical, dental, and vision coverage (individual plans through Kaiser)
  • PTO and holidays: 6 paid holidays and 10–20 days of PTO based on tenure
  • Retirement and protection: Simple IRA with 3% match and short‑term disability
  • Extras: $30 monthly phone stipend, mileage reimbursement, and flexible unpaid time off
Personal characteristics needed to be successful in this role:
  • Independent and reliable — manages work accurately with minimal oversight.
  • Detail‑driven and organized — keeps books clean across multiple projects.
  • Trustworthy — handles financial data with integrity.
  • Team‑minded — communicates well and supports a small, collaborative crew.
  • Adaptable — thrives in a fast‑moving construction environment.
  • Takes pride in quality work — values accuracy and craftsmanship in every task.
