Job summary

University of Florida seeks a Design and Production Assistant to support interior design and production for scholarly books. You will oversee typesetting of 30 interiors per year and create final InDesign files and print-ready PDFs in coordination with editors.

The role also covers backlist reprints, production design assistance, and ongoing software proficiency, with a bachelor’s degree required and solid InDesign experience. Salary is $17–$18 per hour.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area or equivalent experience.
• Three or more years of experience in book text design.
• Experience with a university press or nonprofit publisher is a plus.

Responsibilities

• 50% Interior Design: oversee typesetting of 30 book interiors per year; provide PDF files for proofreading and final packaged InDesign files.
• 25% Reprints: update backlist files for reprinting and new formats.
• 15% Production and design assistance: support production team and book designer with tasks.
• 5% Software and technology: stay updated on relevant design software and pursue development.
• 5% Other clerical tasks as assigned.
