Job summary

The University of Rochester seeks a full-time Operating Engineer to maintain boilers and related equipment across the River Campus, Medical Center, and Chilled Water Plant. You will start boiler fires, regulate combustion and monitor gauges to keep steam pressure safe and steady.

Working under general supervision with rotating shifts, you’ll read charts, log performance, and perform routine repairs or adjustments.

Qualifications

• High School graduate with 2–3 years of related experience in a power house or boiler operations.
• Must have good judgment and be in good physical condition.
• Willingness to work in environments with dirt, dust and heat.

Responsibilities

• Operate and assist in maintenance of boilers and auxiliary equipment to produce steam.
• Start boiler fires, control combustion and monitor gauges and logs.
• Read charts, maintain water levels, and ensure safe boiler operation.
• Perform routine repairs, balance controls and assist in system adjustments.
• Keep clean work area and comply with safety procedures.
