Job summary

Rutgers University is seeking an Operating Engineer II to maintain, operate, and repair stationary steam boilers and auxiliary equipment on the College Ave Campus. The role emphasizes efficient boiler operation, compliance with regulations, and proactive maintenance.

The position requires at least two years of boiler operation experience, a blue seal, and a valid driver’s license; CMMS and plant monitoring knowledge is preferred to support continuous operation and documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating steam, hot water boilers, and auxiliary equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and repair boilers, motors, pumps, compressors, valves and related equipment.
• Run boilers at maximum efficiency to minimize energy consumption.
• Take readings of fuel use, pressure, draft, temperatures and flow; record results.
• Add chemicals to treat steam and water per requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all regulations.
• Keep work areas clean; perform maintenance as directed by supervisor.
• Inspect equipment and report conditions to manager; cover shifts in emergencies.
• Complete paperwork and maintain logs and files for the plant.
• Understand Rutgers compliance standards and company policies.
• Utilize computerized monitoring and work order systems.
